Meeting of the public council at the profile ministry

On September 5, 2019, a meeting of the Public Council under the relevant ministry was held

Agenda:

  1. On the priority issues in the field of environmental protection.
  2. On the liquidation of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine.
  3. On the competence of bodies for assessing the conformity of environmental certification services provided (environmental management systems, products, services, etc.).

Present deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Committee on Environmental Policy and Environmental Management

  1. Oleg Bondarenko, political party “Servant of the people” - Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on environmental policy and nature management
  2. Elena Krivoruchkina, political party “Servant of the People” - Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Environmental Management.
  3. Lutsenko Irina Stepanovna, Political Party "European Solidarity" - member of the Committee
  4. Angelika Labunskaya, political party All-Ukrainian Association "Fatherland" - member of the Committee
  5. Also present is Anatoly Kutsevol - director of the reform support team at the Ministry of Natural Resources

The newly formed ministry, headed by Oleksii Orzhel, will unite the two ministries - energy and coal industry and ecology and natural resources that existed in the previous government. The main goal of such changes is to provide an integrated approach to state policy in the field of the use of natural resources and energy and to form a single policy to overcome the negative effects of global climate change. This approach is generally accepted in European and world practice, in particular in the EU countries (France, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Australia).

Important functions of the new ministry are to ensure that it does not lose those that are related to environmental issues, environmental safety and environmental management.

The new ministry joins the State Forestry Agency, the State Fisheries Agency, the Hydrometeorological Center and the StateGeoCadastre.

One of the priority tasks is to ensure:

  • Fulfillment by Ukraine of its obligations under the Association Agreement;
  • Adoption of the National Environmental Action Plan until 2025;
  • Preparation of parliamentary hearings in November 2019.
