From 1973, he worked for Kyiv State University as the leader of South Ural expedition, making research and development for ‘Bashneft’ (Bashkiria) Production Association under the Ministry of Oil Industry of the USSR and as a lecturer of the Geology Faculty at mentioned university.

In 1986, he defended his thesis.

In 1991, Pavlo Zagorodnyuk established and headed NADRA GROUP. The company was aimed to implement high technologies in the oil and gas exploration industry of Ukraine, providing Ukrainian and foreign field operators, with an integrated range of oil and gas field prospecting, exploration and development services. The company discovered 83 new oil and gas fields and deposits in Ukraine only.

In 1993, he became Vice-President of the Ukrainian state oil and gas international business corporation ‘Ukrzarubizhnaftogaz’.

In 1997, Pavlo returned to NADRA GROUP as the Chairman of the Board.

In 2003, he served as Chief Advisor to the Chairman of the Managing Board at the ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ NJSC. As a working group leader, Pavlo was responsible for foreign projects, including the implementation of oil and gas exploration and extraction projects in the North Africa, Middle East, Central and East Asia, as well as former CIS countries, entry of Ukrainian oilfield service companies into the international market, application of new technologies and attracting investment in the oil and gas industry of Ukraine. In total, 22 projects were completed in 12 countries. One of the results was oil production by the ‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’ NJSC in Egypt.

From 2005, - Chairman of the Board at NADRA GROUP. Besides to oil and gas sector, NADRA GROUP was focused at the integrated solutions for geological exploration and production of energy, mineral and water resources.

Since 2015, after the signing of the Paris climate agreement to preserve the environment, NADRA GROUP has focused on projects aimed at increasing oil and gas production in mature and depleted deposits (brownfield). NADRA GROUP has ceased its greenfield exploration activity in response to the requirements of the new climate agenda.

Since 2015, NADRA GROUP has expanded its activities and managed projects and programs of a wide network of partner enterprises regarding the effective and balanced use of the entire set of natural resources.

In 2019 Pavlo was assigned to the position of independent director and member of ‘Ukrnafta’ PJSC Supervisory Board. Within the Board he headed the Sustainable Development Committee which worked out the Optimization program of Ukrnafta, including measures to increase oil and gas production in mature and depleted fields.

In 2020, on the initiative of Pavlo, a new project was created, the direction of which was the management of projects of digital platforms for the preservation, rational use and restoration of the natural capital of the planet, overcoming the ecological and social challenges of the 21st century.

Besides to the commercial activities, in February 2000 Pavlo put forward the initiative to establish and head the Public Organization ‘Ukrainian Association of Geologists’ (UAG) after its registration. He was the Chief Editor of the Geologist of Ukraine Journal, the mouthpiece of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists. UAG has held six congresses of geologists, designed and approved the reform strategy for the geological industry of Ukraine within the new terms of market-oriented economy.

Measures aimed at preserving the personnel and intellectual potential of Ukrainian geology and expanding international cooperation have been implemented. The Ukrainian Association of Geologists became an associate member of influential international geological non-governmental organizations: the European Federation of Geologists (EFG), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geologists and Engineers (EAGE), the Union of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and many other world professional organizations. UAG develops cooperation with non-governmental organizations of a number of European and Asian countries through bilateral agreements. As part of the international platform ‘The Implementation of the Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement Standards on the Effective and Balanced Use of Natural Resources’, the Ukrainian Association of Geologists, as a full member of the EFG, participates in the implementation of a number of projects within the framework of the European Union Framework Program for Research and Innovation "Horizon 2020" and "Europe 2027".
