Fifth International Conference on Geology and Oil & Gas Potential of the Caspian and Black Seas

Representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists participated in the Baku Conference (19-25 October 2005) devoted to the geology and oil & gas content of the Caspian and Black Seas.


Nearly 300 oil geologists from Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Malaysia, China, Japan, United Kingdom, USA, France, Germany, Iran, Turkey and other countries took part in the conference. The conference was opened with greetings by Aqif Narimanov, and the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Union of Petroleum Geologists, Helmut Gartner, the representative of the European Association of Earth Engineers and Scientists.

Interesting field excursions acquainted the participants of the conference with mud volcanoes of Qaradag and Perekeshkul districts, stratotype sections of the Paleocene and Maikop sediments, as well as detachments of the productive thickness of the Lower Pliocene in the Kirmakin valley (stratigraphy, lithology bituminous manifestations).
